“To be a body of water,

flowing in and out of other bodies of water,

however, is to generate meaning from relation.”
— Astrida Neimanis

In the ecofeminist thought of Astrida Neimanis, humans are seen as “bodies of water,” inseparable from the larger systems of life surrounding them. She suggests that rivers, rain, humidity, blood, and oceans belong to the same continuous flow passing through all living beings. Nature therefore appears less as something external to humanity and more as a shared space of coexistence and interdependence. Species on the Verge of Creation is looking for this connection.

The title plays on the familiar expression “species on the verge of extinction,” replacing one word with its opposite and opening a radically different horizon. The shift transforms a sentence associated with loss into one that speaks about creation, emergence, and possibility. Rather than imagining nature only through collapse, the exhibition reflects on the continuous renewal of living forms.

Jessica Moroni’s practice emerges from a deep curiosity toward nature and toward the endless possibilities contained within materials, forms, textures, and colors. Her works seem guided by attention and discovery, developing through an intuitive process that remains open to transformation. Nature appears throughout her practice as something alive and constantly changing, shaped by movement, coexistence, and continuous relation between living beings.

More than anything, it brings forward a reflection on connection: the invisible links that bind bodies, landscapes, water, plants, and emotional experience together. In contemporary life, these connections often become harder to perceive. Speed, distraction, and overstimulation distance us from slower rhythms of observation and from a more attentive relationship with both the world surrounding us, and the personal inner dimension.

In Moroni’s works, nature remains intimate and present. Organic forms, flowing structures, and evolving shapes suggest a world where nothing exists in isolation and where transformation becomes part of life itself. Forms appear to grow, shift, and change through contact with one another, following movements that feel instinctive and open rather than fixed or controlled.

Presented within the landscape of the Langhe, among hills shaped by cultivation, seasons, and natural rhythms, the artworks enter into dialogue with a territory where the presence of nature still feels tangible and close. The surrounding landscape becomes part of the atmosphere itself, reinforcing the invitation to slow down and rediscover quieter forms of attention.

Rather than offering answers or listing the issues, Species on the Verge of Creation opens a space for contemplation and reconnection. It reflects on the possibility of rebuilding a more peaceful relationship with the natural world through observation, curiosity, and openness to transformation.
