Dunja, una artista. Documentary by Jessica Moroni. 2019

"Dunja, una artista" is a documentary that reconstructs the biography of the outsider artist Dunja Hirschter Koprolcek, of Croatian origin, while also exploring the history of the conservation of her artistic legacy.

Dunja Hirschter began her career in the arts in Croatia, where she was part of an avant-garde theater company, Kugla Glumiste, which received recognition and is remembered for its impact on the cultural history of the country. She left the theater to convert to Islam and, after traveling through the Maghreb countries, settled in Spain, where she spent her initial years living on the streets.

Diagnosed with schizophrenia, she was admitted to psychiatric hospitals more than once. She spent her last years in Granada, where she found support from the Muslim community both economically and emotionally.

After her death, a team of volunteers, of which I was a part, decided to preserve and manage the artist's work to showcase it and document her contributions. For several years, I kept her legacy in my home until 2016 when the entire collection was sold to an art collector in the Netherlands.
